Has prenatal yoga helped in delivery?
Has anyone tried prenatal yoga and notices a decline in nausea and some help in pregnancy and delivery?
I'm close to 9 weeks and was looking into it, I used to do yoga before pregnancy, and I know you have to approach yoga differently while pregnant.

Liz Franklin has taught chair yoga to seniors for several years now, so she really knows what to expect when leading a class for the 50+ crowd. Here is what she thinks is important to be mindful of.

Be punctual

Your students will almost all arrive with plenty of time to spare before class, so you better be there at least 15 minutes before it starts. Make sure you dismiss the class on time, too.

Never call your students “old”

The first baby boomers are starting to turn 60, and one boomer turns 50 every 8 seconds. So watch out – here comes the bubble of baby boomer seniors!

As boomers, we never really wanted to grow up, so we certainly are not even considering “getting old”. Avoid using language such as “slowing down”, “golden years”, “elderly”, or “aging”. “Active adult” is regarded as pretty safe. What is wrong with that, anyhow? That is what you’re hoping to accomplish by having them in your yoga class!

Expect many students to be hearing and sight impaired

Medical science continues to improve rapidly, but it is still common for seniors to have lost some acuteness in their hearing and/or eyesight.

Make sure you speak up at all times, even more so than you do in your other classes. If necessary, invest in an inexpensive PA system.

When offering them printed materials such as a class schedule or inspirational handouts, make sure the type is a fairly large. This applies to your web site, if you have one.

Be aware of health problems

Partial loss of hearing and sight is probably the most common thing to watch out for, but there are a lot of other conditions that may present contraindications for particular asanas.

You should always be ready to use props, modify poses, or suggest and alternative pose.

A complete discussion of this subject is a whole other article, but I will say that you should carefully quiz new students about health problems and physical limitations, and always recommend checking with doctor.

Some will be conservative in their manner and dress

Some of your students will wear workout clothes, but others will come to class in casual street clothes that you would not see in most studios. It is not uncommon for them to leave their socks on, and we have seen a few that do not even take off their shoes.

Be especially cautious about doing adjustments least you offend someone.

Liz does not invite them to spread their buttock flesh to make contact with the sits bones – after all, you do not touch that part of your body in public!

Do not say much about the spiritual aspects of yoga

There are some fundamentalist Christians that put forth the idea that yoga is the work of the devil. Liz had one class sabotaged by a woman who insisted that chanting OM was calling the devil. There is not much you can do to change people’s minds about this, but you should be aware of this problem.

You also need to think about everything you say in class and decide if that could be misinterpreted as a call to change one’s spiritual attitude. Most of your students will have established their religious outlook on life long before they start a chair yoga class. You probably shouldn’t talk much about chakras, the Sanskrit names for asanas, awakening Kundlini energy, or any of the more spiritual aspects of yoga when teaching Yoga In Chairs.

Expect students to interrupt class with questions

Most of your chair yoga students will be new to yoga to start out with, and will have lots of questions. They may have health issues to ask about, and they sometimes just “don’t get it” the first time around.

Be patient with your students when they interrupt class with a question. Your chair yoga classes simply will not be as solemn as other classes.

Try to stay in touch with your students

Despite the fact that chair yoga classes are not as solemn and thoughtful as most, your students will take their commitment to you and the class very seriously. You probably will have a lot of continuity in the composition of the group. Also, they will often feel like they need to contact you if they will not be in class, especially if they know in advance that they will miss several classes.

Likewise, if they are not in class, they will usually be pleased that you took the time to check up on them. Doing so will also help keep people from drifting away. Of course, pay attention to how they react to having you checking up on them, and if they seemed to be annoyed by that, then back off. I will say that Liz has not had a single case where she felt like she was being a pest.

Conclusion

Teaching chair yoga to seniors is definitely a different experience than you have in most classes. However, if you pay attention to the things discussed above you will be much more successful in starting and maintaining chair yoga classes. In doing so you will be tapping into a huge yet underserved market and do a lot of good in the process.

Mark Franklin enjoys telling people about Liz Franklin’s Yoga In Chairs(r) because he knows it is helping people live healthier, happier, and longer lives.
By now most of us knows the benefits of yoga. We know that it is one of the top exercises for our body, our soul and our mind. It can help us to stay fit and lean. It can also help us in learning how to manage stress and relaxing our body. But do you know that there are many different forms of yoga? One form that is gaining popularity and attention is ballet booty yoga.

Ballet Booty Yoga is the creation of two expert yoga instructors: Gillianm Marloth and Teigh McDonough. This new form of yoga was not developed by them over night. In fact, it took them many years of study and experimentation to come up with the final results to this new form of yoga.

The two instructors, of course, began studying the wonderful movements that goes along with the dance known as ballet. In ballet, there are many refined movements that the dancers have to make and hold. These synchronized movements not only make for a beautiful dance over time they make the dancers body, lean and tone, as well. By incorporating some of these movements along with the movements of regular yoga, they had a start to this new yoga format.

Yet, as the name implies they also added movements that will help a woman tone “the booty” area of her body, the buttocks and surrounding area. These movements are combined with some of the ballot movements and yoga, also.

As the program grew, both instructors soon realized that they had come up with a new, yet enjoyable form of yoga. By combining some of the basic movements of yoga to the basic ballet dances the exercise was enjoyable, yet just a little different.

Different can be good, if you are looking for a new way in which to workout. If you do the same types of exercise on a regular basis, you tend to become bored with them. Boredom can slowly mean that you will lose interest in doing them. That is why many faithful exercisers like to spice up their workouts some, they like variety and they do not like to do the same routines again and again. Many of these types of people are turning to Ballet, Booty Yoga.

At first, people are intrigued by the name. It is catchy and just saying it can make you smile. Then when we see the movements, we want to try them. Once we try them, we find we like them and we like their challenge.

If we continue using the Ballet Booty Yoga movements over time, we can actually begin to tone up more, build more strength and even lose weight (especially if we watch what we eat).

To learn the movements of Ballet Booty Yoga, you can purchase many different types of DVD’s that cater to this fitness crave or you may even be lucky enough to find a class in your area. Some of these movements can also be done with some yoga equipment such as: yoga balancing balls, ankle weights, hand held weights and you definitely will want to use a yoga mat.

As with any basic yoga regime, Ballet Booty Yoga can help your body in many different ways such as: lowering blood pressure, helping to improve circulation, improving your sleep and breathing.

If you enjoy yoga or think you might, if you are bored and looking for a new exercise routine, you may want to give Ballet Booty Yoga a try.

Every day at the same time, the religious leader would walk through the town. As he traveled the same route each day, his followers trailed behind. One day, as they were walking through a narrow street in a poorer part of town, an upper-story window flew open. A woman leaned out of the window and shouted insults at the leader. She then dumped a bucket of garbage on him. Anger surged through the followers like an electric current. They shouted angrily and started moving toward the stairs in order to subdue the woman and avenge their leader. The leader thrust out his arms to stop them. He then said calmly, “My religion is one of peace. Come. Walk with me.”

Carefully he wiped the garbage from his head and shoulders, and then peacefully walked on as if nothing had happened. The followers were again walking through the same part of town. As they approached the place where the incident had occurred the day before, the shutters flew open. The same woman leaned out of the window and dumped insults and garbage upon the leader, just as she had done the day before. The followers were now livid with anger, their repressed rage having simmered for a full day. Yet once again, the leader smiled gently, as if he had been expecting this to happen. Again, he held out his hands to restrain his followers and simply said, “My religion is one of peace, of brotherhood. Come. Walk with me.”

The followers were incredulous. They could not understand how the leader could willingly accept such abuse a second time. But they reluctantly consented to their leader’s wishes and fell in tow. The next day, the same thing happened, and the next, and the next, and the next. And so it went. The leader bore the brunt of the anger and hatred of the woman on the upper floor, while the followers continued to be perplexed by his gentle acceptance. One day, they were walking down the same alley, and as they passed that now-familiar window, no shutters flew open, no insults were hurled, and no garbage descended. The leader stopped. He turned to his followers, and, as if talking to himself, wondered aloud, “Yesterday she looked pale. I think she is sick, and that is why she has not come to the window.” To the astonishment of his followers, the leader walked upstairs and knocked on the door of the woman’s apartment. A servant came to the door. The leader asked about the welfare of the lady who lived there, and the servant confirmed that the woman was indeed ill and in bed.

The leader then went to her bedside, held her hand, and comforted her. He sat beside her for a long time, stroking her hand and soothing her pain. He then sent for a doctor, and when he felt certain that she was well taken care of, he left and resumed walking down the street with his followers. Each day thereafter, he visited the woman and cared for her. She was initially full of distrust. As the days passed, her suspicions began to melt away. She realized this was no ordinary man. When she was finally well, she bowed to him and said, “I am deeply sorry. You are truly a great leader – nay, you are a prophet. I accept your faith, and I am deeply humbled by your might equanimity and your immovable peace.”

This woman became one of the most ardent devotees of the leader whom history remembers as the great prophet Mohammed. In this lovely story, prophet Mohammed embodies the unshakeable inner peace that keeps us sane when life seems to be dropping garbage and insults on our weary heads. (I cannot verify this story of the prophet as being true, though it brought me to tears, and helped me to truly respect him. It was told to me by a family member to explain what a great and peaceful man the prophet Mohammed really was.) Peace is the inner awareness that, despite it all, everything is in its places. Peace of mind keeps us afloat when wild waves buffet our fragile boat. It is peace that allows us to sleep well at night. It is peace that creates the inner knowing that no effort is in vain. Indeed, even physical healing happens only when our nerves are calm and we are at peace.

By meditating or practicing yoga, we should not merely seek the peace that a wise practice inevitably leaves in its wake. Peace is not an end unto itself, just a means. When our mind is at peace, we can listen to our heart, realize our dharma, and then act upon it. A troubled, turbulent mind can hardly see itself objectively or fathom the purpose for its creation. Hence, cultivating peace of mind helps us discover the purpose for our existence. Peace must not simply serve our desire for comfort; it must serve our dharma. So find peace, yet reject peace. Strive for purposeful peace, while discarding the lethargic peace that prevents you from actively living your dharma.

What types of family life CAREER-WOMAN has to choose from if she decides to go on ? ?

I believe that CAREER-WOMEN are damaging family life with their efforts. First of all it relates to the fact of their mothers telling them “don't you dare this happen to you, never rely on a man”. Such mother obviously f*cked up with her choice of men. Then her mother sees man as machines, there are fore she attracts men who see her as a machine also. And such child never has family life, but got stuck into achieving, over education, enduring pattern in life. Basically most career-women have no idea how to run a family. However, women who do go doing what they love, create a wonderful career that they enjoy. Usually they run a flower shop, artistic salon or similar venture that pleasant for woman's heart. Most career women spend whole life studying and preparing to do work that they hate, but with advice of their mothers, that gives good financial returns. Women definitely need to be educated about money and the best way is through letting her spend her own money only or specially earned allowance. “here is 50 bucks honey and go to the mall and buy what you like just don't cry” approach will ruin human values. Career women spend 10 – 15 years at least to climb their career ladder before they usually finally decide to take serious measure about their family. Sometimes, they get into real rat race, since women get influenced so easily by society, and actually gain nothing but whole closet of things and tons of emotional baggage. In either way, with such approach her fertile time is usually almost done, in many cases she is emotionally distressed…mostly due to the fact of her biological drive to give birth was suppressed and she had to learn male qualities to compete on the job or in business. Who is more often get donor sperm? Career women of course! Who attend workshops and seminars about how to attract a man? Career women of course! Does a self made businessman attend workshops how to attract women? Probably not, because he is in his natural male lifestyle. Career women really make it hard for themselves in family life. Biological clock for women is really what their life revolves around. From 22 to 35 is the time to have a family, but what you see on TV and in movies. 40 year old educated career women cannot make their love life work. What if they fail to get it done in next 5-10 years? They just wasted their life. And such movies and things on tv don't appear from thin air. It was caused by real things in society. Women, get influenced by advertisements and their mothers about economy and life, so they believe life must be with all the glamor and huge income and whatever else just to get more stressed. When you stress – you buy. You buy a lot. Every 7 out of 10 women I'm getting in contact with each week, get to the point of bragging about their money or job or things they buy. Even sometimes it reminds me how men would do that. Women even brag about their cars now. 2 out of 10 women do have a passion for romance, but only 1 of those 2 usually open for thinking higher thoughts. Must note here that such woman is usually vegetarian or vegan, artistic, lives on her own, reads books, watches documentaries, does yoga and good in bed. Sometimes I really sit down and think how great it is to go and interact with a number of neurotic women to meet a real one on occasion. Our planet, especially US, wanted to have equality, but really got sameness. Men are educated to be wimps and fashion freaks, and women are go-getters. These two concepts interfere with biological drives. Standard career women who are in the certain field for the money or in very competitive men dominated field are doomed to be with broken family and with wimpy men in their lifes. Many women of that sort tell me that they don't see any other way, because they don't trust men. Its is the issue in their head, because deep down they know that they are not worth men's time to stay around. Instead career they should focus becoming a better person. When I began dating life, I run into series of issues and could not understand what happens with my approaches. However after it became natural and I met few women who decided to share their thoughts, I've realized how many of them NEVER had a guy asking such questions or even doing anything close to what I was doing. Once I run into a cute girl and did what I usually do. I did look at her closely, but only after a few minutes I found out she is 40 and ex full-time model and has a son my age. She had raw diet and looked like 20 year old. Women should focus on their diets more then on their career. Plus eating healthy is cheap, beans and broccoli for example. This woman ended up talking with me for 2 hours and said that she only got men trying to buy her, bribe her, take her to bars, buy her homes, propose with fine jewelry. She had no specific date she could think of she really remembered. Later I met similar women of older then me age group who told me same things. They were yoga teacher, exotic dancer a
